By the time you finish reading this, I hope you’ll believe this too:

Talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t. That’s why Opportuned exists

Every day, I’m struck by the raw brilliance and determination of people around me. A college student building remote-controlled aircrafts from scraps. Local mechanics who build cars from discarded parts. Friends who make custom shoes by hand and dream of starting a shoe empire — without ever having stepped inside a business classroom.

These are the people who inspire Opportuned.

In Nigeria, and across many developing countries, entrepreneurship is often born from necessity. It’s the fallback when jobs don’t come. But here’s the thing: that same necessity carries potential. And with the right kind of support, structure, and education, it can become power.

At Opportuned, we don’t believe entrepreneurship should just be a means to survive. We believe it can be a way to thrive. To design local solutions for local problems. To take ownership of the future. To build something that outlives you.

🌱 How It All Started

The idea for Opportuned wasn’t born in a moment, rather it morphed over time. It grew from years of witnessing talent being overlooked and potential being stifled because of one thing: lack of access.  I’ve always believed that the youth of developing nations are some of the brightest in the world. It’s not just about intelligence — it’s the resilience, the creativity, the drive to make life better than the one you inherited.

I grew up around people like that. But not all of them had the chance to channel that energy into something lasting. I've heard stories of people turning to unprofitable businesses just to survive. Others gave up on building anything at all. I kept asking: What would happen if those people had just one real opportunity?

That’s why Opportuned was created.

🚀 What We’re Building

Opportuned is a social enterprise that offers entrepreneurship education and support to students and small business owners in developing countries. Our goal is simple: to help people build solutions that change lives — starting with their own.

We're starting with three core programs:

  • A hands-on Bootcamp for high school students

  • A free, global Online Course

  • A practical, AI-powered Accelerator for business owners

Each program is designed to meet people where they are — whether they’re just discovering their ideas, or ready to scale them. We want to surface local solutions from local communities. And we want to equip people to take those ideas forward with tools, mentorship, and structure.

🔥 Why We Believe in This Work

Shortly before lecture on a sunny school day, my high school biology teacher gave a short talk, where he said:

"God has allowed every man to draw his future with his hands. Your future is what you make of it." - My high school biology teacher, Mr. Amobiojo.

That line has stayed with me ever since.

For a long time, I didn’t know I had the power to change anything. But then I started to see people just like me doing meaningful work — building, leading, changing things. I realized I could do the same. I want every young person in Africa, in the Global South, and across the globe to believe that too. And more than believe — to have the agency, support, and opportunity to act on it.

🌍 Our Vision for the Future

In the next five years, we hope to:

  • Run entrepreneurship competitions in schools across developing countries

  • Build a network of business owners turned mentors

  • Equip thousands of learners with tools to lead local change

And we're just getting started.

📝 FAQs

Where did the name come from?

The term “Opportuned” is used colloquially in Nigeria to mean “given an opportunity”. While it’s not a formal English word, it’s one many of us grew up hearing, and it's often said with pride, hope, or longing.

We chose this name intentionally, because it reflects the communities we serve, the language we speak, and the reality we want to change.

At Opportuned, we believe every person deserves the chance to shine.

Our mission is simple: to make opportunity meet talent.

Why focus on entrepreneurship?

Because entrepreneurship gives people agency. In communities where traditional opportunities are limited, entrepreneurship can turn ideas into solutions, survival into growth. We believe that equipping people to build businesses and solve problems is one of the most powerful ways to change lives.

Is Opportuned only for people in Nigeria?

We started in Nigeria, but our mission is global. While some of our programs are region-specific, our online course offerings, including "Entrepreneurship by Doing" are free and open to anyone, anywhere.
